MONUMENTAL FOOL
A monumental fool was I
To go and leave without a word
To cut and run when things went wrong
A coward's way to say goodbye
I put aside the dull routine
Of mulling over what is done
It doesn’t do to harp on how
It never was but might have been
A broken heart is not so bad
It weaves a kind of spell
Then in my heart I’m oh so glad
That love misused me well
The day you called our love a bore
Had left me feeling so alone
I talk to friends and fill my days
Yet still I love you more and more
Our love grew colder with the years
And had to shoulder many tears
Come close don’t let me go
Oh how I need you so
That’s all I wanted you to know
The night before I went away
We’d never been so close before
But that’s the way things were of course
Tomorrow was another day
I still remember how it was
Yet still I need you now because
A monumental fool was I
